Canmore, ALBERTA
As many of you know, I’ve spent the past 3-4 weeks driving across the country and then back again. We experienced everything from snow to 31C heat during this time.
And when we finally arrived back home – it was as if we had not left.
The trees still had buds. Fresh snow ladened the surrounding mountains. It was as if spring had stopped and was waiting for our return.
Finally warm weather arrived here yesterday and this week, we’ll enjoy summer weather. The leaves have burst out, grass is green, bees are buzzing and the river is starting its annual
flood.
Now some of you, especially if you are new to my letter, may be wondering what all of this has to do with marketing, sales or growing a business.
It’s a fair question.
I’ve just spent almost a month on the road. Helping my daughter move residences at university, 2 time zones away.
Spending close to 2 weeks at the home of my parents, who are turning 89 and 90 this summer. Helping get the summer patio furniture out, pulling down “widow-maker” branches snapped off during winter storms. Getting the boats
out.
Generally, sprucing up the place as they are much less capable these days. And with Covid, no one wants to come do it.
And then taking the opportunity to visit some dear old friends on the way back, including a fellow varsity athlete whom I hadn’t seen in at least 20 years. That was special.
This is why I do what I do. To have the Freedom to go when I can – and still stay connected with my clients and continue to run my business.
Money is great. And it’s important to use it to keep score and track your successes. But equally important, I believe, are the experiences you can create for yourself, your family and
friends.
What about you?
If you are on this list, it’s because you are an owner of a business or professional practice or would like to own one.
Can you drop what you are doing and traipse across the country? Leave your office or place of business at the drop of a hat?
If not, why not?
If not, when?
If you operate a business that is location dependent, then what systems and personnel do you have in place so you can be the owner of that business, instead of the owner of your job?
If those systems are not in place – when do you plan to install them? Do you have a plan to do so? What roadmap are you using? How much support do you have to help you get
there?
To help answer these kinds of questions and provide support, knowledge and expertise for the journey is precisely why I co-founded Street Smarts MBA. To provide a low-cost environment with this kind of
information; for like-minded people with live, weekly, coaching sessions.

P.S. No successful entrepreneur I know of has ever succeeded doing it all on their own. No matter how skillful or knowledgeable you may be in your craft, trade or profession, none of those are the same skills needed in managing
people, handling sales, running marketing campaigns, understanding your financials – and setting everything up so you are the owner – not the technician.
