“The market closes in 5 minutes. If you hurry, there might be a few still open.”

The sun shone down bright and hot as we pulled out of our friends’ driveway, the remnants of laughter and shared stories still hanging in the air. I glanced at my wife, a spark of excitement flickering in her eyes. “A market!” she exclaimed, nearly bouncing in her seat. “I’m so looking forward to checking out the market today!"
We had visited that quaint town once before, but the lure of local vendors and
unique finds was too enticing for us to resist. As any seasoned couple knows, sometimes the gravitational pull of a community market can feel stronger than family ties. So, we set our course.
But I had my own ideas—why not take the scenic drive? I longed to capture the verdant landscape, the winding roads that cut through rolling hills and rustic farmlands. We could let the charm of nature envelop us before immersing ourselves in
the town’s offerings.
“Let’s take the long way,” I suggested, smiling at her.
“Absolutely,” she replied, nodding vigorously. “It’s a perfect day for it!”
With a brief detour for a panoramic view—stopping to snap a few pictures and indulge in dappled sunlight filtered through the trees—it wasn’t until noon that we finally approached the town.
At the first shop, after we had parked, we asked
where we might find the market. She said, “at the top of the hill, but it closes in 5 minutes! If you hurry you might find a few stalls still open.”
Up the hill we went, my wife marching at her usual brisk pace and me following behind as I tried to keep up. When we arrived, we could see that the market was wrapping up. Vendors were folding their tables and packing up their goods.
After a quick perusal, my wife remarked,
“it doesn’t look like we missed anything, really. Let’s head up further, since we haven’t explored that area before.”
We found, to our surprise, another group of shops and restaurants, the latter with fantastic views to the east, with the ocean, visible in the distance.
After a relaxing meal, we visited many of shops and cafés we had “run” past earlier in our hurry to get to the market. We purchased some
items, had another coffee. We reveled in the charm of the area.
In the back of my mind, I was thinking, “it’s amazing how even a small market can draw people in. I wonder—how many locals appreciate, let alone understand the significance of it?”
This little market, for us and likely many others, was the catalyst that drew us to visit. In marketing jargon, it acted as a free “lead magnet”, attracting us
like bees to honey.
Since most companies struggle at attracting customers, creating and promoting a “lead magnet” can be one of the best ways to do so. Here are a few lead magnet ideas you could consider, regardless of, whether you’re in retail or providing a professional service:
- Free Workshops: Host an interactive event where you share your expertise.
- Discount
Days: Create special days where new customers receive exclusive discounts.
- Loyalty Cards: Launch a program rewarding repeat buyers with unique benefits.
Most businesses think of using lead magnets to generate immediate customers.
There is, however an even bigger impact, if they are used to attract future buyers, by providing answers and guides to prospective
buyers’ interests, then following up with them in a strategic way.
I show you how in a recent book titled; “Double Your Profits…”. Not only will you learn strategies on how to generate leads, but it will also give you some simple, easy to implement tactics you can use now, to
increase your bottom-line without spending a dime on sales or marketing.
