“Things are ok. I mean, they’d be a whole lot better if we could find good employees. But those are difficult to find because there’s no affordable housing available…”

This was part of a conversation we had recently with a friend of ours who owns a long-standing restaurant in our valley. They’ve been in business 30 years, survived the lockdowns of the pandemic and are currently finding it a bigger challenge than ever to attract qualified employees.
This is just one challenge, of many, business owners face. There are plenty more as these recent headlines attest:

It's easy to be overwhelmed by all the negative news in the world these days.
Whether it's the latest political upheaval or a dire economic forecast, it can be hard to stay focused on the positive. But as a small business owner or professional, you know that having a positive outlook and maintaining a
resilient attitude is essential to success.
So how can you keep a positive attitude and ignore bad news?
First, it's important to remember that news outlets tend to focus on the most dramatic and sensational stories. It's their job to grab your attention and keep you engaged, and the bad news stories are the most effective way of doing this. That doesn't mean those stories aren't important, but it does mean that the news coverage of them isn't always balanced.
Second, it's important to focus on the good news stories. Look for stories of hope and progress, stories of people doing good things, and stories of success. This will help to remind you that, despite all the bad news, there is still good happening in the world.
Third, take some time each day to practice mindfulness and meditation. This will help you to clear
your mind and focus on the present moment.
Fourth, take some time each day to do something that you enjoy. Whether it's reading a book, going for a walk, or playing a game, make sure that you take some time to do something just for you. This will help you to stay focused on your own goals and
ambitions and keep your mind off the bad news in the world.
Finally, make sure to connect with people and build relationships. Spend time with friends and family yes, but even better,
reach out to people in your industry who may be able to offer valuable insight and advice.
Having a network of people who you can turn to for support will help to keep you focused on the positive and
remind you that you're not alone.
But being simply focused is not enough to succeed in a world if and when economic downturns happen. The key to insulating yourself against recession is
to turn your business into a dominating, profit-making machine. One where your “economy” is 100% under your control and you have a literal waiting-list of customers, clients, or patients ready and willing to buy from you whenever you want them to.
If your business doesn’t have this kind of demand, then now if the time to create it. And the easiest and best ways to do this is via Mastermind or similar group.
Until next week,
Stay healthy and focus on profit!
